Iron and manganese contamination in groundwater is a common water quality concern worldwide. These elements not only affect the taste, color, and odor of water but also cause scaling and clogging of pipelines and filtration systems. Among the many filtration media available, manganese sand has emerged as a cost-effective and highly efficient solution for groundwater iron and manganese removal.
Manganese sand is primarily composed of manganese dioxide (MnO₂), which has strong catalytic oxidation properties. When iron (Fe²⁺) and manganese (Mn²⁺) in groundwater come into contact with oxygen or an oxidant, they are oxidized into Fe³⁺ and Mn⁴⁺ and precipitate as insoluble hydroxides. These precipitates are then effectively filtered out by the manganese sand media.
-High Removal Efficiency: Reduces iron levels to <0.3 mg/L and manganese to <0.1 mg/L—meeting drinking water standards.
-Durability: Excellent mechanical strength and long service life.
-Simple Operation: Works well with aeration or oxidation systems; low maintenance costs.
-Wide Applications: Suitable for rural drinking water, groundwater pretreatment, and industrial water applications.
-pH range: 6.5–8.5
-Iron concentration: <10 mg/L
-Manganese concentration: <2 mg/L
-For best performance, combine with an aeration tower or pressure filtration system.
The effectiveness of iron and manganese removal depends on the MnO₂ content in the sand. We recommend choosing products with ≥35% MnO₂ for optimum results. With 27 years of experience in water treatment media production, we supply high-purity manganese sand with customizable granule sizes to meet your needs.
